I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
There are so many things we who call ourselves Christians do. We attend church, sing in the choir, serve on a committee, contribute to a funeral dinner, work on a mission project, give our tithe and so on and so on. The list is never ending of things we can and should do as we serve our Heavenly Father. However, do you know that our works without God are fruitless and empty?
In John 15:4 -5, Jesus tells us,
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Sadly, in the church we often find ourselves so busy serving, we forget for whom we are doing it. Even more sad is that sometimes, we get so wrapped up in getting involved we never took the time to know Him in the first place.
There is not one act of ministry, service or sacrifice that any of us can do, that is going to reserve our place in heaven. Our name being written in the Book of Life is not something we can purchase through our works. The price has already been paid.
Over two thousand years ago, the Son of God came to this earth. He was perfect and without sin. He was the only sacrifice worthy enough to redeem the sin of all mankind. The greatest thing about His sacrifice is it provided a way for each of us to be washed clean and made acceptable to God. All we have to do is accept it.
In an effort to make sure that all know of this wonderful gift, we want you to ask yourself this.
Have I repented to God of all my sins and accepted the redemption that Jesus paid for by asking Him into my heart?
This action does not require an eloquent speech. It does not require getting your life in order first. All this requires is you opening yourself to God and asking Jesus to save you. God already knows everything about you. He knows every thought you have ever had and every action you have ever taken.
If you have already accepted Jesus, make an effort to reconnect and be refreshed with him by spending some time in prayer, singing Him a song or reading God’s word. If you have never given your life to God and you would like to accept the redemption offered through Jesus Christ, here is a short prayer you can pray to do this. Let’s make sure He is a part of our works.
Heavenly Father, I know my life is full of sin. I know I need you in my life. I ask that you wipe that sin away and save me through your son, Jesus Christ’s, sacrifice. Please come into my heart today and write my name in your Book of Life.
